This lovely old tubeskirt from Laos is made with handspun cotton and silk. The quietly colorful design, on a dark indigo background, is created with both supplementary warp and supplementary weft patterning in silk and cotton. Only skilled weavers can create these complex weavings. An attractive, handwoven hemband compliments the colors in the body of the skirt.
Skirts like this were worn for special occasions. Probably from the middle of the 20th century, condition is very good, with only one small hole. It can still be worn.
