  • Khmer ‘Sampot Chawng Kbun’

Khmer ‘Sampot Chawng Kbun’

Patterned with a small, refined design of diamonds and stylized ‘nagas’, this elegantly handsome old piece is subtly colored with dark red, gold and black dominating, but highlights of green and blue are also evident in the centers of the diamonds. Such crisp and fine patterning suggests great skill in the ‘hol’ process of tying the resists for the dyeing. It was used as a man’s ceremonial garment. Five handsewn repairs, plus numerous very small holes, and fraying along the edges make this a rather fragile piece, but still very fine and beautiful.

Size: 118″ (9′-10″) x 35″
