Zhuang Wedding Blanket
Beautifully designed, this old Zhuang blanket was woven with an integral frame for the outside border, which surrounds a traditionally-designed central field filled with diamonds. There are three different groups of designs in the border and field (see Detail_1), including running swastikas for many blessings. Dark indigo lines with hooks enliven the central field, and indigo diamonds punctuate the border. Made with a foundation of very fine ramie, silk is used for supplementary weft designs, except for the indigo motifs, which are cotton. Condition is very good, with some wear, but no holes or repairs.
