Zhuang Heirloom Baby Blanket
Unusual, rich copper-colored silk on a soft, indigo/grey background creates an elegant effect on this lovely old blanket. A wide border comprising small diamonds creates a window which is filled with ‘king’ symbols and diamonds, indicating this as a boy’s blanket. The silk supplementary weft weaving is on fine cotton or ramie dyed in a soft indigo color. Condition is quite good, with no holes or repairs, but random areas of wear are evident, especially in an area where the indigo interacted with the silk. Probably early 20th century, this must have been lovingly used.
