  • Miao Apron Panel from Jianhe

Miao Apron Panel from Jianhe

From Jianhe County in Guizhou, China, and the largest apron in our collection, this one features nine bands of silver motifs, separated by bands of vertical silver tubes at both the top and bottom. Such a large amount of work! The center panel of hooked motifs in silver is large and complex. Dark silk embroidery nicely balances the silver work and reads as negative space. The sides are finely edged in two colors of cotton- brown and lighter indigo. All other cotton is very dark indigo, approximating black. This apron is not new and shows some wear on the edges and the ties, but it does not detract from the overall beauty. This panel is really an artistic 'tour de force'.

Size: 17 in. x 7.5 in.
