Ge-jia Embroidered Panel
Fine chain, satin and cross stitch embroidery decorates these two, almost identical panels from the Ge-jia people in Guizhou Province. This pair of panels would have adorned the back of their handsome batik jacket as ‘tails’ (please see Clothings and Ornaments of China’s Miao People, p.131). Each panel is a work of art, therefore we are offering them individually. The fine silk embroidery on cotton is complemented by accent bands of dark blue cotton attached with very fine, decorative (probably machine) stitching. Contrasting black and white outlines and accents the central motifs. Condition is very good, with very minor soil and a bit of fugitive color at the upper left (TACH343) and on the lower left (TACH343b).
