Miao Coat Panel

Originally the tail of a Miao, or possibly Dong, woman’s coat, this panel is covered completely with fine silk embroidery, not weaving! This one has nine bands, each with a different design, and comprises several panels stitched together. Handspun cotton backs each piece. Metal-wrapped silk threads enliven some of the designs. These are beautiful framed, or could be added to a garment as elegant embellishment.
