Li Wedding Tubeskirt
This fine old wedding skirt from the Qi sub-group of Li is beautifully mellow in color and feel. The indigo cotton and golden silk embellishments were handsome when new and have aged well. The skirt comprises three bands, with the top one of silk and cotton supplementary warp on indigo cotton. The second includes warp ikat, in addition to supplementary warp and weft weaving. Silk embroidery includes dancing figures and other attractive motifs. The third band is embellished with both weaving and embroidery in fine repetitive motifs that are traditionally used on these special skirts. Condition is quite good, tho there have been some repairs and some embroidery is worn. This skirt is quite old and has been handed down through the generations. Late 19thc-early 20thc.
