Silver ‘Hirz’ from Iran
Found in Shiraz, Iran in 1996, this old hirz prayer holder/amulet case is covered with the beautiful calligraphic script called nastaliq. Nastaliq is a calligraphic form of Arabic script known for its flowing, expressive style, often used for writing the Persian language (Farsi). The message on this holder probably conveys an Islamic religious text.
The silver is of a high grade and due to its softness has acquired a few dimples and dents over the generations. It is a lovely, heirloom quality example of this type of pendant.
