Justly famous for their beautiful blankets, the Tujia people are known for weavings utilizing strong geometric patterns in often vibrant, harmonious color combinations. This one is a fine example, with the surface alive with layers of color, all held in by attractive, colorful borders top and bottom. ‘Wan’ symbols, each of which represents ten thousand blessings, abound. Comprising three panels, all cotton and bordered in cotton, it is in excellent condition, with only a small stained area (Detail 2) on the central panel. Probably mid-20th century.
