Tuareg Amulet Necklace
From the Kel Air tribe of Tuareg of Niger, this is a smaller version of ‘tcherot’ than JT171, and most likely would have been worn by a woman or girl for protection. These are amulets which contain verses from the Qur’an or magical inscriptions. This one is older, probably of nickel or low grade silver, but has handsome incised decorations and is on a multi-yarn cord with leather trim. Please see Angela Fisher’s Africa Adorned pp.190-217 for more information on the Tuareg.
