Ceremonial Comb from Sumba ‘Hai kara jangga’
From the island of Sumba in Indonesia, these combs are worn by girls of marriageable age at village ceremonies. This one is smaller than most and dates from the 20th century and is made from one segment of a sea turtle shell. Beautifully decorated with cutouts of stylized roosters, crocodiles, and a skull tree, it is in excellent condition with no broken or repaired teeth. It includes a custom-made metal stand.
