Used in both Burma and Thailand, tattoo needles (also called “pens”) comprise three parts: a weighted top, central shaft, and tip. Made of heavy cast metal, the top weight is often decorative, like this one which has a mythical guardian figure kneeling and holding a club. The tops are chosen based on the subject of the tattoo and it is believed that the powers of the figure will be imparted into the tattoo. This one is old and well-used.
