Ritual Dagger for Yao Priest
From NW Vietnam, this dagger is an important component of a Yao shaman/priest’s collection of ritual objects. Not intended for cutting, it is shaken to keep evil spirits away. This one is nicely made with unusual decorative cuts at the top of the blade and on the iron crossguard between the handle and blade, and lots of old Chinese coins that rattle. Made of iron, it has darkened with age and rust, but is in good condition for its age; c.early to mid-20th century. These ritual daggers are becoming harder to find.
