Iban Basket from Borneo
These handsome baskets are very much in the tradition of Iban weaving, as the patterns are similar to those used on textiles such as ‘kain kebat’ and ‘pua kumbu’. The three part color scheme is artfully rich, making a grouping of these baskets particularly handsome. This one has two different designs, on opposite sides. These are becoming difficult to find in Indonesia, especially in good condition and with well-executed, visually complex patterns. 2nd half 20thc.
