This group of textiles features examples
from Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. It includes
articles of clothing, baby carrier panels, purses, blankets
and other utilitarian pieces which were made for personal
use, not commercial sale. Primarily made of silk and/or cotton,
these pieces were made using various techniques including
ikat, supplementary weft and batik, as well as a wide variety
of embroidery. When possible, we try to select older pieces
in good condition, of aesthetic interest as well as ethnographic
importance, and especially those utilizing natural dyes. |
